Missionaries sharing the God News of Christ Jesus among the Mapuche People

Biography

Ruthanne and I have been called to God’s missionary journey for several years.

Ruthanne started gained her first exposure to missions when she was only 13.
She felt “called to missions” at age 12 during a mission’s conference. Ruthanne was involved in her first cross cultural experience at age13 in Haiti. God has provided her many opportunities to serve in a variety of ways, from construction to nursing in South America, Central America, Africa and Asia.

Both Ruthanne and I took the ‘Perspectives on the World Christian Movement’ which helped clarify our understanding of God’s purpose for the nations. Through this exposure and Ruthanne’s prior missionary experiences, we knew that cross-cultural ministries would be a part of our future.

Shortly after getting married, Ruthanne and I took a short-term mission trip to Sierra Leone, West Africa. Here, Ruthanne had previously spent a year training nurses at the Wesleyan Mission Hospital. But this time, our main purpose was to up-grade the missionaries with modern technologies; i.e. computers while Ruthanne provided her expertise in the clinic. After this experience, we felt God’s confirmation on our lives towards a cross-cultural ministry.

Upon return, both Ruthanne and I decided to make a career change so we could pursue missions. We moved across the country to start a computer consulting business with my parents in K-12 education institutions. Our expectations were to provide ourselves with free time each year to pursue an annual short term mission trip. Unfortunately, the job and life became consuming and did not allow us to fulfill this dream.

Then God provided an opportunity for us to redirect our lives. It was during this time, we decided to pursue a long term mission vision; starting with a biblical education. So we packed up the family, and moved to South Carolina to attend Columbia International University, which has a prestigious history for sending out quality missionaries. After four years, I have finally finished my studies and we are ready to be involved in God’s kingdom building. We realize that we still have a lot to learn but we are ready to take the theoretical and make it practical for God’s glory.

We are now ministering among the Mapuche people of Chile. The Mapuche are an indigenous people with a strong tie to animism. It is here among the Mapuche that God has called us to facilitate a church planting movement. By God’s grace and mercy, we pray that He will use us to fulfill His purpose. May we seek His agenda and not our own!
