The Christian life is a mystery lived by faith. Just when you think you have given your all, God wants more. We have been in Chile for over 3 years and have experienced many challenges: a new culture, new languages, new friends, new schools, a new ministry, a car accident, a giant rat, volcano eruptions, 8.8 earthquake, vehicle problems, irregular heartbeats and more. So when is enough, enough?
In November 2010, we traveled northeast to visit family, friends and churches. Unfortunately, I found myself stopping at every rest stop, having dry mouth and fatigue. With the busyness of our schedule, we ignored the symptoms and continued with our agenda. After a month of traveling, we returned to North Carolina where I checked my blood sugar level. To our shock but not to our surprise, I had a blood sugar level of over 300 when it should be around 90. For the last 7 years I have been pre-diabetic but now, I am officially diagnosed with TYPE 2 diabetes. This means a change in diet, exercise and medication.
So when is enough, enough? I have sacrificed so much to do God's work and yet my health is being challenged. Haven’t I given enough; must I sacrifice even my favorite foods? Yet as I reflect on my situation, I am reminded of Apostle Paul when he wrote, "Therefore, in order to keep me from becoming conceited, I was given a thorn in my flesh … But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. … For when I am weak, then I am strong." 2 Corinthians 12:7-10
In reflection, I find myself embarrassed and my attitude selfish. Regardless of the situation, we should always find our strength in Christ. Yes, I have diabetes but I also have a God who will help me on the journey. May I learn to find strength in my weakness because His grace is sufficient for me. By Chad Lynch

Romans 12 is also a verse for this battle.
If God at least takes away your desire for the unhealthy foods, then you will be more inclined to a better diet.
Let me encourage you. You are a man of great discipline in many areas. Keep your eyes on Jesus and He will enable you.
