Even though our ministry is among the Mapuche people, God has given us an incredible burden for those with whom we live. The concept of going out and doing ministry and neglecting our next door neighbor just seemed inappropriate and hypocritical. For us, the Christian life is not a 8 to 5 job but is a lifestyle to be shared with everyone. Therefore, about a month ago we started the Discovery Bible Study (DBS) in our home on Sunday mornings. There had been a small church in our neighborhood but it closed last year. We wanted to offer our neighbors an opportunity to study God's word and experience His the transforming power. What started with our family, one woman and one child has grown to 13 adults and 16 children! The adults are meeting in the morning and the children in the afternoon. We are using the same DBS that we are using on the coast in CoiCoi, in areas of Collin Alto and the Men's prison system in Temuco. It is very interactive. We memorize Bible story, analyze and apply it to our lives. Right now we are working through the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5-7) It is exciting to see people committing to putting God´s word into practice in their daily life.
We are now discussing dividing the adults into two groups and the children into two groups...our living room isn't that big. We shared a meal together on Sunday after the study and are planning a prayer and worship time for this Saturday. We can see the intimacy growing and several people talked of others that they are planning to share with and invite to join us.
We are excited and challenged
